Referring to our interview of this morning with
Mr.Tennyson, we beg to quote the following telegram received
from Hongkong:
"Permission given to Cheetham to carry on agency
of the Texas Oil Company has been cancelled
Governor"
which we duly submitted to you.
In answer to our enquiry as to the grounds of the ob- jection to Cheetham, Mr.Tennyson was good enough to inform us
in confidence, (which we strictly respect), that the Authorities
in Hongkong had evidence from an impeccable source that Mr.
Cheetham was acting merely as the agent of Schluter and Reuter
Brockelmann & Co. Mr.Tennyson was unable to say whether Cheetham had been taxed with these suspicions or been asked for
any explanation.
